Stone of Inspiration
Stone of Inspiration ~ Proverbs 3:5

My daughter found this painted stone at Red Rock Canyon last week.  Soon it will be placed far, far from Nevada – for someone else who needs inspiration.

What is going on?  A project is trending about leaving a stone of inspiration for another person to find.  The message painted on the rock is meant to inspire that person who in turn leaves it in another location for the next person to find and so on; a paying it forward project, so to speak.

My daughter found a Proverbs 3:5 Inspiration Stone:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; ~ Proverbs 3:5 NKJV

Proverbs 3:5 is a precious message.  Isn’t it miraculous how God’s Word ties us all together and binds us to Himself with a painted rock?  You know what is even more amazing?  This rock may have been created by God millions of years ago in order to be picked up and lovingly painted by someone living now; left in some random location for another special someone to find, who may be blessed in a personal way just by finding it.  Think of the journey of this one little stone.  This rock is about the size of a large egg and look what it can do!  God is using it as a witnessing tool to spread His love message to a vast number of people.

WOW!  What can you do compared to a rock?  Hmmmm …

I love the next verse:

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. ~ Proverbs 3:6 NKJV

I believe God is doing a mighty work with this project by directing the paths of individuals all over the planet to read and to think about His Word; and to share in being God’s witnesses.  I like the word “laugh” painted on this rock.  I laughed when I realized how God keeps everything so simple for us.  He makes it so easy to witness for Him that sometimes it’s fun.

Have you found one of these rocks?  Be on the lookout –  Evidently, they are all over the place!

Sometimes we would like to participate in God’s work, but don’t know how.  In this case, I didn’t find the rock – my daughter did.  She was inspired to bring it to me so that I could tell you the story and then place the rock in a location frequented by lots of people.  So easy.  Praise God, I became part of all this, even though I didn’t go anywhere or find anything.

The Glory Snap

Last night I wakened at three a.m. to a common local phenomenon.  It’s the closest thing in nature I have witnessed to what the Glory of God must be like.  Last night a heavenly display of color exploded in the night sky like a glorious snapshot.  I call it The Glory Snap.

In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. The former term was coined by Galileo in 1619, from the Roman goddess of the dawn and the Greek name for the north wind. Aurora – Wikipedia

Last night every window of my house showcased greenish ribbons of Aurora Borealis snaking through a myriad of stars like a needle and thread.  If you can imagine the Big Dipper and other northern constellations buffeted by a sort of fan-dance of colored lights against the background of a midnight sky, it sort of looks like this:

Oh, of course there are more dramatic and colorful photos of the Northern Lights.  But this is the closest one I found to what happened over my house last night.

However, God’s Glory shall never fade like the Aurora Borealis with the rising sun; or dim in the arctic twilight of winter.  No.  The brightness of God’s Glory is eternal and defies my comprehension.  I searched the Biblical scriptures for illumination and these verses spoke to me:

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. ~ Isaiah 6:1-4 NIV

Wow! Picture a universal kingdom where ultimate power emanates from the throne of God.  The train of God’s robe fans out just like the Northern Lights dancing across a velvety dark sky.  The thundering proclamations, “Holy, holy, holy”  by the angelic beings called seraphim shake the very foundations of God’s temple in Heaven.  My spirit tingles in recognition of The Eternal One; The Creator; The GREAT I AM:

It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'” ~ Romans 14:10b NIV

It is spectacular!

What is your understanding of God’s Glory?  For me, describing the Northern Lights is my feeble attempt to explain just a fraction of God’s Glorious Awesomeness.  Perhaps you see a glimpse of His Glory in a sunrise or sunset.

“Thank You, Father, for giving us many descriptions of Your Glory in Your Word.  The knowledge that You are “high and lifted up” gives me the understanding that You are to be revered; You are The One and Only God; that You are perfect, and unchangeable.  Praising You today for creating the Northern Lights in our sky that gives us a wondrous snapshot of the magnificence of Your Glory.  Thank You for Your unquenchable love, justice, and mercy towards humans.  Thank You most of all for Your Son, Jesus, who died for mankind, in order for every sinner to experience Your eternal glory by simply repenting and accepting Your free gift.  We lift high His Matchless, Beautiful, Glorious Name.  Amen.”

Some people on the earth have never witnessed The Glory Snap.  Have you?

To the gods of Babylon

Is45-22

Almighty God speaks out against idol worship in Isaiah chapter 45.  He states over and over that “I am the Lord, and there is no other”.

By Myself, I have sworn, My mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before Me every knee will bow; by Me every tongue will swear. They will say of Me, “In the Lord alone are deliverance and strength.” All who have raged against Him will come to Him and be put to shame. ~ Isaiah 45:23-24 NIV

When that day comes, it will be an unprecedented event like no other on this earth.  I don’t know about you, but I pray that it will be a joyous day for as many people as possible instead of a shameful one.

God next turns His attention to the gods of Babylon in chapter 46:

Remember this, keep in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” ~ Isaiah 46:8-10 NIV

What Can You Do?

Dream the impossible.  Go out and make it happen.  I walked on the moon.  What can you do? ~ Captain Eugene A. Cernan, Commander of Apollo XVII, “The Last Man on the Moon”

I am haunted by this quote after recently watching “The Last Man on the Moon” documentary.  Afterward, I visited a memorial website to honor one of our nation’s most revered human treasures, Captain Gene Cernan (1934-2017).  Like so many others, I sought to find out more about the man behind the astounding achievements recorded in his book and documentary, “The Last Man on the Moon”.  To me, his life symbolizes sacrifice and perseverance in the face of daunting perils associated with exploring the unknown reaches of space.  He faced such challenges with unwavering resolve and great faith in himself and in countless others who worked behind the scenes to place him in orbit around the earth and, ultimately, on the moon.  His story empowers me to ask the same question he did:

What Can You Do?

Or more importantly, What Can I do?

What can I do with God’s personal and precious gift of mysterious energy we call life?

On my own, I realize that my life’s achievements are insignificant in the eyes of the world.  I am a mere speck of dust – or perhaps less.  On the day of my departure from this world, I will be missed by a few friends or family members briefly and then – nothing…. but Captain Gene Cernan will live on in the hearts and minds of Americans far into the future.  In recent years Captain Cernan wanted to leave us a piece of himself while he still lived among us.  He wanted us to know that we should never give up on ourselves.  His message was to strive for our dreams and never give up on us.

Today I choose to take that advice literally both as an individual and also as a nation. Even though we live in times of negativity, division, or defeat, I am encouraged – no, inspired – by the exemplary life of  a national icon who reached out to the stars and beyond for answers to questions about our universe.  What he achieved is really BIG when you think about it.

So back to, What Can I do?

The strangest thing happened to me this morning as I pondered this question.  I felt a spiritual spark begin to pulse within me.  Do you ever get ignition – right out of nowhere? – that moment of thought conception that tugs and stretches until it becomes realization?  I’m talking about the sort of realization that comes from the gut; who knows – from the Holy Spirit?  It is the gripping realization of some genetically placed truth that I have known from before the womb.  In my case, it is the knowledge that “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me”, confirmed in God’s Word in Phil. 4:13.  If my obedience pleases God through Christ, it has all been accomplished under the direction and strength of His Holy Spirit.  That’s a ton of power and God-Given No-How.  Therefore, it will be remembered for eternity.

WOW!!!

I guess Gene Cernan was right.  There is unlimited potential in each one of us, and since our Heavenly Father never gives up on me, then I shouldn’t either.

They will still yield fruit in old age, They shall be full of sap and very green, To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.   ~ Psalm 92:12-15 NASB

The Lord reigns… For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts… ~ Psalm 93:1a, 95:7-8a NASB

“Father, please guide me by Your Spirit to live up to my potential for service to You and Your Kingdom.  Give me strength to perform Your will and the wisdom to understand it. Glory and Praise to You for Your everlasting love toward mankind.  Thank you for planting Your Greatness in me before the earth and moon were ever formed; in the powerful and matchless Name of Yeshua, our Messiah, Amen.”

I guess that brings us back to Gene’s question, “What Can You Do?”
